The South West’s Solution for Carbon Capture and Storage.
What is 7CO₂?
7CO₂: Severnside Carbon Capture & Shipping Hub is a new carbon capture and storage (CCS) hub, established to provide regional industries the transport and processing capability they need to capture and permanently store their carbon dioxide emissions.
CO₂ captured by businesses can be transported by pipeline or rail to Avonmouth docks. There, it can be liquified, stored, and shipped to long-term geological storage, permanently removing it from the atmosphere. CO₂ may alternatively be used, in the production of alternative fuels for maritime or aviation.
The hub will be a catalyst to the development of shipping and rail transportation of CO₂ nationally, a supporter of regional jobs and inward investment and a critical contributor to delivering industrial decarbonisation and clean power.
Established
7CO₂ is an independently owned UK company established in 2022, with the constitutional purpose of enabling regional decarbonisation.
Location
Based at Avonmouth Docks, Bristol, UK, the 7CO₂ hub is primed to offer easy CCS access for local and regional businesses.
Hub Features
Enables CCS access for multiple regional emitters
High biogenic CO₂ content
Independent and UK owned
How it works.
Energy from waste, industrial or power emitters can invest in carbon capture facilities on their sites, in the knowledge that the 7CO₂ enables rail or pipeline transport of their CO₂ to the port side. At the docks, 7CO₂ will unload, may liquify and then store the CO₂, before loading it onto ships for onward shipping to long-term storage.
The plan.
The Hub is currently in the development phase. It has completed a concept study, with leading engineering consultancy Petrofac and is undertaking targeted pre-feasibility studies. Further feasibility and front end engineering and design studies will be undertaken before construction commences.
Full operations are projected to start by 2029/30, with ongoing expansion and capacity increases planned based on industry needs and regulatory approvals.
