The South West and CCS: A prime location for decarbonisation.

Why the South West?

The South West of England, in particular the Portbury, Avonmouth and Severnside region, is a significant industrial hub for a range of industries that have an important role to play in the UK’s journey to net zero.

It is home to Seabank power station, several major energy from waste power generators, advanced manufacturers, as well as renewables across wind, solar and future energy production such as nuclear and hydrogen. Existing rail connections connect us to dispersed industrial (cement and manufacturing) and energy from waste sites across the country.

7CO₂’s unique industrial cluster encompasses three local authorities and crucial strategic infrastructure. An internationally important transport hub, our cluster is in touching distance of two capital cities and straddles major port, road, rail and airport connections.

The South West is a leader in decarbonisation and clean energy and is committed to continuing on the journey.

Community benefits.

7CO2 has strong regional support from public and private sector stakeholders, bringing with it a multitude of local social and economic benefits, such as:

Catalysing >£2bn of inward investment.

Creating up to 15 permanent and up to 2000 construction jobs.

Contributing to community skills, training and place-based initiatives.
